PRAC Board Detailed Pool Rules for Toys and Admission

  • Supervision of Children 7 or Younger:

  • Children 7 and under must be accompanied by a parent or sibling age 15 or older who will monitor and assist the child as needed.

The intent: that someone be willing to attend to the child and know contact info for parents.

  • Unsupervised Youth Ages 8-13:

  • Must Register with the Pool to Provide a Parent’s Name and Phone Number. They will get a color wristband to signal to lifeguards that they are only allowed in the shallow end (to the divider) unless they have passed a swim basic test. Lifeguards can provide this test when time allows.

The intent: that we have info to contact parents and have a means of determining how capable the child is in the pool to ensure their safety.

Swim tests should be performed as time allows. If the pool is busy, kids should be wristbanded and kept in the shallow end until time and attention can be devoted to performing swim tests.

To pass a swim test, the child must be able to do all the following:

  • Ability to comfortably float/ tread with their head above the water for 30 seconds

  • Ability to comfortably swim the length of the pool (25 yards) without stopping (except when going under depth line marker), touching bottom or straining

Toy restrictions:

  • For Open Swim: No Large Inflatable or Hard Toys, Pool Noodles or Water Guns Are Allowed. Arm floaties can only be used in shallow water. Flotation vests (properly secured) are allowed.

The intent: Prevent obstructions to visibility and prevent injury from horseplay. Arm floaties are not approved floatation for deep water because they can slip off, but secured flotation vests are. Note: if it’s not prohibited here, it’s allowed. What is allowed will be items like small beach balls, diving toys & the ball for the basketball hoop. We want the Lifeguards to know that we support them enforcing this using their judgment and without hesitation.
